I never play my consoles, but my PC logs hours.

admin | July 26, 2011 in Gaming | Comments (0)

I have noticed recently that I barely play my consoles when I get the hankering to play a video game.  I used to sit down in my game room and play for hours but I just don’t do it anymore, instead I am at my computer playing games to my hearts desire.  I have tried to figure this out, and it is obvious: the pc will always be greater than the console video game system.

I have all my games at my disposal and can be accessed with the click of a button.  Not only are my games easy to access but I have programs like Steam that make keeping my games up to date and organized so much easier.  Now I will always want hard copies of my games on my consoles and PC but having everything digital on my PC just makes like so damn easy.

I used to never play games on my PC, but I have since realized how easy it is to have a greater gaming system than my consoles.  It used to be a hassle for my to upgrade my computer because I wasn’t planning ahead, and only planning for the now.  Now that I have learned from my mistakes, my PC is set for a couple of years to play games at max settings.  And these max settings look better than any console game out there.  Try and tell me Skyrim or Battlefield is going to look better on the console versions and I’ll show you a finger.

Also, my PC is such a better computer than my PS3 and Xbox360.  I throw money into this beast to make it as powerful as I can, but I do it for a reasonable price and it’s cost is probably what I paid for the 360 and PS3 combined.  Now you will never be able to upgrade your consoles, but I will always be able to update my PC.  It’s understandable why you can’t upgrade a console, but why pick a static console when I can have a PC that will play games that look so much better than a console version. Owning a console is easier, yes, but not as rewarding as playing games on your PC.

There are seriously so many reason why I play my PC over my consoles, and I hope everyone out there realizes that the PC is greater than the consoles.  Us gamers should know this, and I know PC gaming isn’t “family friendly”, but I would love to see that change.  Upgrading and updating a PC is easy to do, people just need to learn how, and need to learn how to game on a PC.  I don’t want to see the PC go under like it has been said it is going to do.  I do feel, however, that PC gaming will always be around, but I want to see it stronger than ever.  I hope everyone can agree with me as you read this.  Long live PC gaming.

Top 10 Releases Left This Year

10. Forza 4 (Oct 11)

So if you are into racing games, or even have a slight interest in them at all, you will have to check out Forza 4.  This game has unbelievable graphics and a slew of cars.  Also, the car customization will be back in full force and the amazing multiplayer races.  The one feature that I am most excited with is that Top Gear is very well featured in this game, and why not, it is the most popular automobile TV show.  I just want to race a lap around their test track without having to win a race of only VW buses(Damn you GT4).

9.Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword (Q4)

This is a given, Zelda games are always welcome and never disappoint.  Skyward Sword will hopefully have full fledged motion recognition and you will actually be able to swing a sword.  The most welcoming aspect of this game is that it is the prequel to Ocarina of Time.  You are the preceding incarnation of Link that appears in Ocarina of Time.  Skyward Sword flows into Ocarina of Time, and explains Ganandorf’s appearance.

8.Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Aug 23)

Deus Ex, one of the coolest series I have seen that features human augmentation and badassery. Deus Ex: Human Revolution is a first person shooter that is based around five pillars of gameplay: stealth, hacking, combat, social and exploration.  You will need to use all five of these pillars in order to succeed in this game, meaning you may have to break from combat in order to make a stealthy exit.  Human Revolution also offers a robust cover system, and if a game can do a good cover system you know they worked hard on the game.

7.Uncharted 3 (Nov 1)

Tomb Raider – boobs +amazing graphics + exciting multiplayer + a ton more = Uncharted.  That’s for all you people who say Uncharted is an exact copy of Tomb Raider.  Uncharted is an amazing series with a ton of depth in gameplay and story line, and characters that are unforgettable.  This next entry in the Uncharted series has me excited not only for the amazing single player, but an addictive multiplayer that will keep everyone around for a while.

6.Fifa 2012 (Q3)

I have to say, Fifa 2012 looks to be one of the best sports games to date.  They have completely revamped the engine for this latest entry.  Fifa likes to make good games, unlike Madden, and they really strive to improve on each entry.  The graphics, animations and added controls look to be amazing.  Being a football aficionado, I am unbelievably excited for this game.  It looks to really bring honor to the sport, and even if you are not a fan of the sport, you will love the addictive gameplay.  There is nothing more gratifying that getting a bicycle kick in and shoving it in a friend’s face.

5.Rage (Oct 4)

You say Fallout wasn’t you cup of tea?  Well then if Rage isn’t, you are a special person.  Rage is a post apocalyptic game that is about you, a survivor of an asteroid smacking the hell out of Earth, and you struggle to survive.  It features an RPG system that will allow you to take quests, upgrade your weapons and ammo, and an inventory system.  Rage is also based around the ability to trick out your wasteland buggy and turning it into a car that would make any character from Twisted Metal blush.

4.Batman: Arkham City (Oct 18)

We all know what Batman: Arkham City is about, you are Batman in Arkham City, and Hugo Strange is trying to screw everything up.  Arkham City is a city where all the villains were sent to after Arkham Asylum screwed the pooch.  Hugo Strange was hire to keep control over the city, but he has other plans for the city.  This entry in the Batman series will be notably longer, around 25 hours, and you be able to free roam around the city picking up side quests and avoiding all the gangs that make up Arkham City.

3.Dead Island (Sept 6)

Ever play Borderlands?  Did you like Borderlands?  Like zombies?Well if you answered yes, then you will most likely love Dead Island.  A free roaming game set on an island over taken by zombies.  You play as a survivor who is immune to the zombie disease and you are trying to figure out how the hell to escape.  Dead Island allows you to pick from 4 main character each specializing in weapons and defense; there is an assassin, tank, ranged and jack of all trades.  Dead Island also offers weapons customization, where you can combine weapons, it is similar to Dead Rising 2, but it looks to be much more robust.

2.Battlefield 3 (Oct 25)

There is a reason why I did not feature Modern Warfare 3 on this list, why do you need to when you have Battlefield 3 being released 2 weeks earlier?  Battlefield 3 is going to blow away MW3 in terms of being an actual good game.  BF3 offers destructible environments, an amazing physics and lighting engine, and a whole new engine all together, Frostbite 2.  If you have seen any videos of the gameplay from Battlefield 3 you know exactly what I mean.  This game looks unreal, it is the best looking 1st person shooter to be released.  Also, if you have a PC you are in for a treat, 64 player online!

1. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Nov 11)

Nothing I really need to say here.  Skyrim will take away your life, I am expecting 300 hours from this game.  A completely redone Elder Scrolls game that features local economies that can be influenced by the player, NPC’s that do their own thing and don’t just stand their waiting for you to say hello, effing dragons everywhere that give you powers when you kill them, a huge world that can be entirely explored by the player, beautiful graphics, a redone combat system, etc etc etc.  Seriously, this game is going to rape you of your life when it comes out.  This is, by far, the most exciting release this year.

Special editions!

admin | July 17, 2011 in Gaming | Comments (0)

I still thing that saints row the third special edition is the coolest one in a while. It comes with a headset that automatically auto tunes your voice. They are comparable to skull candies. The headset won’t work with your 360 however but will work with phones and computers.

Earth Defense Force: Insect Armageddon Review

admin | July 14, 2011 in Gaming | Comments (0)

I have been waiting for this game for a pretty good time.  The last EDF was not a lot to look at, but it was so much fun and I hoped that this game would present the same thing.  I wanted mindless baddie killing, and many moments of feeling overwhelmed and as though Armageddon was really at your doorstep.  Well, I have played the game and it is safe to say the EDF: Insect Armageddon gave me exactly what I wanted and at a price of $39.99.

In certain games, there are points where you are about to be overwhelmed and suddenly you get an amazing weapon and can plow through the bad guys like a hot knife through butter.  Well imagine that, but a whole game with that same aspect.  EDF  Insect Armageddon give you a world that is being taken over by alienoid insects that are absolutely huge, but very weak to human weapons.  You get to pick out of 5 different classes of soldiers, but can choose a different one at the beginning of each mission.  Each soldier has different special abilities, like the Jet Pack trooper has… a jet pack, or the heavy guns guy is like a damn tank.  I ended up just playing mostly as the standard soldier that could roll around and reload quickly.  When you start your mission, you can change the color of your solider, and buy new weapons and change your loadout.  The bazookas and assault rifles were my go to weapons for sure.  The selection of weapons, however, is amazing though.  You definitely get a lot of guns to choose from, and they are all different in their own ways.

The gameplay is just as you would expect it to be, simple and great.  You sprint, dodge, shoot, reload and jump pretty much.  The reload feature is very similar to the Gears of War system, where you have to hit the reload button again at the right time in order to get a quick reload.  This feature adds to the chaos that you are put through, which I welcomed.  Not only are you worried about that huge spider that is going to rip you to shreds, you are worried about reloading as well.  That is one thing this game does very well, you feel overwhelmed pretty much all the time, but in the back of your head you know you can handle it all.  It’s as though you are the new age Rambo of insect ass kicking.  There is honestly nothing more gratifying that taking out the big bugs.

I found the controls I mentioned to work pretty well, and the mapping is easy to remember.  The game runs very smooth, and the framerate stays pretty solid even with all the chaos going on.  The textures on buildings and the terrain are nothing special, but the textures on the bugs are pretty good.  It’s an arcade game, and you get the arcade graphics, nothing special but something to be reckoned with.  You will notice some of the edges and polygons, but this is just so the game can run at a constant FPS.  The HUD is pretty well laid out, but I found myself never looking at my ammo amount, considering ammo came at the amount of… infinite.  The only real problem I had was that the mini-map doesn’t do a great job at pinpointing where you are, sometimes I couldn’t find myself on it among all the other green dots.

There are honestly two main reasons why you will buy this game, either it is it’s price tag or it is the co-op capabilities that it has.  IT is 2 player split screen, 3 player online campaign and 6 player survival modes.  Now I know Dungeon Siege is running on that it is the co-op king, but this game is so much fun to play with friends.  There is nothing more fun that mowing through these bugs with a friends.  This is also where character classes are important as well, as you will need everyone to kind of spread out their classes.  If you have friends and are not forever alone, I suggest you get this asap.

Overall, I loved this game.  It is a fun arcade shooter that comes at a cheap price.  Don’t expect a lot of depth to it, and just remember it is $39.99.  This game is all about mindless killing off freaking huge insects and the feeling of being overwhelmed.  Now this game isn’t perfect and has a few little flaws like the boring missions that have you doing the same thing pretty much over and over again, but I mean it’s so cheap.  I didn’t go into this expecting a whole lot, but I definitely got my moneys worth.  I would say you should pick this game up if you are looking for a game you can pick up and kill time with, or a game you want to play with your friends.

Why Call of Duty is bad for gaming.

admin | July 9, 2011 in Gaming | Comments (2)

When Black Ops was released last year, we all knew that there was going to be another Call of Duty coming out in the near future.  Well now we have an official release date and another Call of Duty hitting the shelves this winter.  Every year, without failure we have a new Call of Duty and another release of the same game.  Another franchise does the same exact thing, Madden.  The constant release of this title is doing a number on gaming and giving too many developers terrible ideas.

Yes, Call of Duty is becoming the new Madden.  Each year we have a “new” version of the game, yet the only difference is a new 5 hour single player mode and a multiplayer that adds something wonky.  I feel as though the developers are just taking advantage of all of the guy that will buy Call of Duty no matter what because they don’t understand what real gaming is, they just know their bro’s play it.   Once they know people will buy it no matter what, they just reskin the game and sell it as a whole new chapter when really it’s just a rehash.

Many developers, I feel, are thinking to themselves “well if they can do it, so can we”.  An example is Dragon Age 2, I was so excited to play the new Dragon Age, only to get a crappy downgrade with no story and a new combat system to try and make up for the lack of effort.   This has to freakin stop.

It’s sad to say, but Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 will probably outsell Battlefield 3.  It’s sad because there is so much work being put into Battlefield 3, I mean they worked their asses off to make a new engine just for the game and Call of Duty is using the same engine over and over again and selling millions of copies.  I would love to see Battlefield outsell Call of Duty, but odds are it won’t just because Call of Duty is now a household name.

I hope that developers will not take the CoD path with their games.  Games should be fresh and new, with new stories and unique gameplay, that’s the joy of playing these games.  I don’t want to rag on those who enjoy playing the CoD games, but I just feel as though the developers should take a break from the series and think of a decent reboot in a couple years.  I remember when I first played CoD 4: Modern Warfare, it was amazing.  It was a whole new experience for me, it was exciting to play, but now 3 CoD titles have released since then and they all feel exactly the same.  The game is not evolving and too many people are trying to do what Call of Duty did instead of making their own game.  I just think CoD should disappear for a while.

Is Simplicity Key to Video Games?

admin | July 6, 2011 in Gaming | Comments (0)

Remember back in the day when all you had to do what push forward and jump in order to beat a level in a video game?  Those were the days… Video games didn’t have a lot to them, they were simple yet were very fulfilling.  Video games have since become much less simple and have evolved into a much different experience.  Yes the video games of the current era are amazing, but maybe we should have less complex games and more simple, yet fun games.

Halo: Combat Evolved, for example, complex compared to older games but we can all agree it was a fantastic game.  You ran around, shot baddies and when you played together with friends, you either shot each other or had little objectives.  With each new iteration of Halo, there was more added to the game and it seemed like the more they added, the less charm the game had and the less fun the game was.  I have seen this happen with many game series, like Mortal Kombat.  They did the smart thing with the reboot of the series to simplify the game again, and take it back to what the game was really about.

One game that came out last week that is a lot of fun for all the right reasons is EDS 2017: Insect Armageddon.  It’s a simple, pick up and play game where you kill huge insects with a stupid amount of weapons.  I, myself, love the game and have only heard great reviews from those who have played it.  Maybe more games should use this strategy and not try so hard to make the game something it is not.  I am sure many games that have been released by small developers could have been much better if they spent less time trying to force complexity into them and worked on making the game just fun.

Of course some games are complex as hell but are still fun.  Elder Scrolls, Mass Effect, Witcher, Arma, Civilization, flight sims, most MMO’s are some, just to name a few.  But most of these amazing ones are great because they are made by developers that have earned their stripes and know how to evolve a series.

What I really want to say is, maybe some developers should keep the games a little more simple, challenging and focus on the story instead of trying to make them complex so they try and fit in with the games that shine in that area.  Do you think games should be a bit more simple, to keep their charm, or should we make keep them complex and tough to figure out?

New video! Casey Anthony, men in suitcases and more!

Tri-force made of fries and ketchup packets

Made this while I was playing ocarina of time on my 3ds. I fucking love that game. I nostalgia so hard when I play it.

What I said while playing Shadows of the Damned

admin | June 25, 2011 in Gaming | Comments (1)

Here is word for word what I screamed in a gentle voice at the tv while playing Shadows of the Damned.

“Fuckin’ floating words.”

“That demon was an asshole.”

“This guy’s tattoos would give Duke Nukem a hard-on.”

“Is that a fucking goat?”

“…that goat’s not wearing pants…”

“I think I just called the goat a Bitch Santa in Spanish… that goat is still naked…”

“What the fuck?  Either a girl is getting raped or railed by 20 spartans.”

“Oh, she’s dead.”

“This guy has a super badass guitar and zebra couch?  I want his life.”

“Dead woman g-string.”

“Well this guy looks like a douche, 3 heads is unnecessary.”

“He said penetration!”

“My gun has a first name, and it’s Johnson!”

“Johnson is now a stick…”

“Johnson is now a motorcycle that would make James Dean cry babies.”

“Johnson is british?!”

“Johnson is my hero.”

Suddenly, opening title. This game is super sweet tits.  I haven’t beaten it yet, because I have been too busy reenacting Game of Thrones in my room by myself.  But I mean, you have a gun called a boner, and your save point is made by one eyed willy who drops a deuce.  Whoever made this game is fit to have a velociraptor as a pet.  And I’m talking about the kind that slashes that kid’s stomach at the beginning of the first Jurassic Park.  I fucking hate that kid.

New Yorick Update for League of Legends

admin | June 23, 2011 in Gaming | Comments (0)

League of Legends is my current favorite game.  I mean it’s a free game, and it’s addictive as hell.  I can’t get enough of this damn game.  Anyways they just released a new patch update and here is the shpeal on it.

Yorick is a gravedigger and summons ghouls to do his bidding.  It’s odd because it seems like he is a bit of everything.  He”s part mage, melee and tank.  His first spell uses attack damage, and his W and E use magic damage but he always plays very tanky. Here’s his breakdown.

  • Omen of War: Yorick’s next attack will deal bonus physical damage and summon a Spectral Ghoul that deals additional damage and moves faster than Yorick’s other ghouls. While the Spectral Ghoul is alive, Yorick moves faster as well.
  • Omen of Pestilence: Yorick summons a Decaying Ghoul that arrives with a violent explosion, dealing damage and slowing nearby enemies. While the Decaying Ghoul remains alive, nearby enemies continue to be slowed.
  • Omen of Famine: Yorick steals life from his target and summons a Ravenous Ghoul that heals Yorick for the damage it deals.
  • Omen of Death (Ultimate): Yorick conjures a revenant in the image of one of his allies. If his ally dies while its revenant is alive, the revenant sacrifices itself to reanimate them and give them time to enact vengeance.
  • Unholy Covenant (Passive): Yorick’s attacks deal more damage for each summon that is active. Meanwhile, Yorick’s ghouls deal some percent of Yorick’s Attack Damage and have some percent of his total health.

His Omen of War is really helpful in that you can use it like Ghost and just jet away from people, but it also boosts your next hit up like crazy.  This is Yorick’s attack damage skill and gains a plus from AD.

Omen of Pestilence is an AOE skill that is helpful in early game and is Yoricks more “mage” skill. It will do your area damage and then target the closest enemy, chase them, and slow them.  I found it very useful in late game as well in team battle, I would slow the enemy with this for my allies and it helped out a lot.

Omen of Famine is what helps Yorick be a tank.  You can steal your targets life and your ghoul will attack the target and whatever damage it does, it will heal you for that amount.  I mean these ghouls were annoying enough to the other team, but now they’re stealing their health?  Yeah Yorick will be “that” champion.

Omen of Death is what help Yorick be a tank and support.  You will summon a ghost of your target ally, it could even be you, and that ghost will have limited life but will auto attack enemies.  The big thing is, if the target you picked dies, their ghost will sacrifice itself and bring them back to life.  They are not brought back to life for good, but are alive long enough to deal out some damage.  One of the reasons Yorick was put on the market and then taken off right away was because there was a glitch where this spell would keep on bringing the target back to life over and over or it would bring them back to life for good.

His passive, Unholy Covenant, is what makes you want to spam your skills.  In a team battle, I would just spam all my skills, have all of my ghouls and my attack damage increased like a bitch.  Don’t get carried away with it though, only spam them when necessary.

It’s hard to build up Yorick because he can be anything.  A tri-force is a very helpful item, in that it helps you out in all of your areas.  But it’s honestly up to which way you want to build Yorick.  That’s what is nice about his, you can make him into whatever you want.  I will say though, a mage/tank hybrid really worked well for me.

3 simple tips to becoming a healthier gamer

admin | June 19, 2011 in Gaming,Randomly | Comments (0)

A while ago I noticed myself sitting down constantly and playing video games.  What happens when you just sit around and do nothing? You get out of shape and fat, I mean, it’s science.  It sucked because I love playing video games, but I also hate being out of shape.  All I wanted is to be healthy, not a beefcake or steroid juiced mongloid.  So I followed these three tips I made for myself and I couldn’t be happier with the shape I am in.

-Take one hour out of each day or even every other day to go to the gym or ride your bike.  I have taken 1 hour every other day to go to the gym to do cardio and weights and it has really made a difference.  I mean you spend hours and hours playing video games, why not take one hour away just to pump some iron.  Duke does it, so it must be cool.

-Yes we all love soda.  Mountain Dew runs through my veins.  But soda puts pudge on you and turn you into a Rosie O’Donnell. Cut down on that shit.  Drink some water or tea instead.  Yes, some teas have sugar but not as much as your regular soda.  And the caffeine in soda’s are freakin’ terrible for you.  I cut myself down to one soda a day, maximum.  It will be hard to do and you may have caffeine withdrawals.  Yes, that shit is real.  But if you get passed it, you will notice a decrease in weight, and clearer skin as well.

-Having a LAN party?  What better way to feed everyone than going to a fast food place and filling everyone up with shit food.  Notice fat people love McDonalds, skinny people love it too, but fat people LOVE it.  Fast food is food, yes, but too much of it is very harmful to your health.  It will make you fat, and clog up your arteries.  Try and steer away from these fast foods, maybe substitute it for Subway, or Jimmy Johns.  Also all fast food places have healthier options, like grilled chicken or salads.  It may not taste as good as a McGangBang, but it’s good for you.  I still eat some fast food, but I cut it down to maybe like twice a week.

These three simple tips are hard to follow, honestly, because it will take away some stuff that you love.  But nothing feels better than being in shape and having someone be surprised you’re a hardcore gamer.  The exercising is a necessary part in being healthy and a healthier diet will only contribute to it.

I just felt the need in writing this because I am really happy with the shape I am in, and I see too many gamers that are terribly out of shape.  Yes there are some of you who don’t need to do shit to stay in shape(screw you!), but for those who would like to feel better about their appearance and feel better in general, just follow those three tips and you will will notice a difference because I have.

Child of Eden 360 Review

admin | June 15, 2011 in Gaming | Comments (0)

Apparently people thought my other review was lame.   Here’s the review 2.0 WITH CAPS LOCK!

I gave this game an 8.5 out of 10 because I really enjoy the game and it was nice to see a title really utilize the Kinect’s capabilities.  There are minor flaws with the game, but for the most part it is a truly outstanding piece of art.  Pick it up for $50 at your local video game store.

Are free games really free?

admin | June 14, 2011 in Gaming | Comments (1)

There is a new trend that is hitting the gaming industry, and it is playing games for free. It is a catchy trend because it has the word “free” in it’s title and who doesn’t love the word free? But with everything free, there is always a catch, and it seems to be that every free game has a “catch” to it. These catches make it hard for me to consider some of these games free.

Most of these games are available to play without any fees, but in order to get the full experience of each game, there is usually an optional fee. For instance, I played Battlefield Play4Free and found that the only way to get a decent weapon is to pay for one and those who dish out the extra money usually have an unfair advantage. Of course you can get in-game currency, but it is scarce. So you download this free game and expect it to be completely free but then you see everyone has better weapons and eventually most will break down and pay the extra so they aren’t pwned nonstop. Yes the game is free but these little gimmicks give those who do pay an unfair advantage.

I see this a lot with the free games, mostly with free mmorpg’s. If you pay the extra money at their “item malls”, you can get special weapons that are stronger than ones found from in game loot. In a game without PvP, it’s all good but if it is a PvP game, then it gives those who dish out the extra money, again, an unfair advantage. Also with some of these MMO’s like Battle of the Immortals, only those who pay for the extra items can take advantage of certain in game events.

Of course there are legit free games, League of Legends for example. You get free characters each week to play as, and you get in game currency for each match you play. All characters are as balanced as possible, which is nice, so your free characters are just as powerful as others. The only items that require actual cash are the skins for your characters which do not affect your overall gameplay.

League of Legends is just one of the few examples of game that can be considered free to play and it is the only one that I have really found. If you have any experiences with free 2 play games, comment on this article or leave a game you believe is truly free 2 play.

Why I am Buying Duke Nukem Forever

admin | June 13, 2011 in Gaming | Comments (0)

I don’t care if anyone says this game sucks, I will own this game.  Reasons why? Right here, son.

3.Nostalgia –  I used to play this game on the N64 like a damn madman.  Pixelated strippers and outer space baddies? Sounds like a good time.

2.Fun – Duke is about having fun.  We are so lost in having a game that is dead serious, that we lost sight on why we play games; for fun.  This game is in it for the fun factor and not the graphics.  I mean shrink rays, scantily clad women, Duke’s quotes, play pinball out of no where, all the interactiveness of it, its all just plain fun.  Yes, you could argue the price on the game, but still.

1. It’s Duke – I mean, come on.  Hail to the king baby.  I know they are hoping that his name sells this game alone, and I’ll be damned if it’s not working on me.  To me, he is one of the coolest video game characters out there.  He doesn’t give a fuck about anything other than himself, girls, and killing baddies.  And to think your favorite character is Cloud for FFVII.
